Applications Management: Northgate Revenues & Benefits

Meritec was invited to provide Hosting and Managed Application Support for the Southend-On-Sea Borough Council Northgate Revenues and Benefits system following a 5 month tender process.

In order to de-risk the transition Meritec proposed a two stage implementation, initially transferring the system to a similar platform to that on which it was already hosted thereby minimising changes. Phase 2 then migrating the system to a higher specification platform on completion of Year End.

While the timetable was still very tight, particularly taking into account lead times and the need to work closely with the existing third party service provider, Phase 1 was completed very successfully on time and 3 weeks ahead of Annual Billing.

The Meritec solution provides the Council with high availability for what is a business critical range of systems. The service also includes a comprehensive disaster recovery facility located at a separate (from the primary site) Meritec data centre.

As well as demonstrating Meritec’s core technical and project management strengths, it is also an excellent example of how a flexible and lateral approach to a problem can produce a cost effective solution which might not otherwise have been considered.
